We arrived in London on the morning of the 3rd, ready to.. well... ready to sleep! But we wanted to sleep that night, so we limited ourselves to a short 1.5 h nap. It gave us enough energy to go to the grocery store and pick up some food...
| Shocked at the conditions of the hostel we were at. More on that later... |
Groceries included:
Olive oil £2.50
Parmigiano £1.60
2 Heads of garlic £0.47
Broccoli £0.80
Baguette £0.70
Chickpea vegetable dip £1
Hummous £1
6 Eggs (Free range) £1.68
Almond Milk £1.39
2 Packages of carrot sticks £1.25
On the first night we ate pasta with garlic, olive oil and broccoli. Pasta was pilfered from the hostel kitchen, so it was free. All we needed to buy was olive oil (which lasted quite a while), 2 heads of garlic and a head of broccoli.
The smell of our food cooking in the hostel... priceless! We ate downstairs and as we always did when we brought our own food down to the eating space in the lobby... we got looks... which I interpret as jealousy, although maybe also annoyance at the strong garlic smell!
We even had the leftovers for lunch the next day. Too lazy to take our plates down to the lobby, we chose to eat in the (very lame) kitchen at our hostel. There's only one chair in there so I balanced myself between the stove and the countertop. It got the job done!
The day after we got there we recieved a phone call (but were unable to pick up because of the international fees)... So we googled the phone number and found it was probably the people who had arranged our Stonehenge tour. We called back on the hostel phone (which they charged us £.50 per minute to use... even though it was a local call) and were informed our Stonehenge tour had been cancelled, but I managed to transfer our reservation to the other tour that was today in just a few hours! So we quickly ate and walked to the tube, apparently too fast because we had some extra time to hang out at a park/cemetery near our tube stop....
Interesting rides on our walk to the tube:
After a lot of trouble we eventually found the tour bus to Stonehenge. We had a quick toilet stop (well, Leah went, I didn't!) This toilet cost £.30 to use!
Big rocks!
Baby Stonehenge... or rather, one of the outlying rocks of the formation.
There were a fair bit of crows near the stones and we joked that since nobody really knows what Stonehenge was erected for perhaps it was actually a crow burial site and they were the guardians ;)
Good-bye, Stonehenge!
Snack for the way back: Carrots and dip (hummous, and vegetable chickpea dip)
I want that triple bike!
